About the Teacher

Katie Craven has been performing, both singing and playing music, since she was four years old. She earned her undergraduate and masters degrees at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Katie majored in music, education, and English, learning to teach both vocal and instrumental music as well as lyrical analysis and literature. She emphasizes learning to read music, using proper vocal and instrumental technique, and most importantly, enjoying making music! 

She believes learning music should be fun and that all people can be musical, regardless of their current ability level. Her studio is a place where every learner can express their true self through music.

Katie has developed her own system for teaching students to read music and play instruments that is accessible to a variety of learning styles. She has worked as a teacher in both public and private schools and is fully certified in k-12 vocal and instrumental music instruction by the Iowa Department of Education. She resides in Colfax with her husband and three children.
